Give a change its context

Journal is the place for selected developments that deserve a closer explanation. A useful observation report identifies what changed, the interval and scope involved, and the measurements supporting the description.

The record and its interpretation should remain distinct. Where an explanation is provisional, the article should say so. A striking result alone does not justify calling it a discovery.

One reference, shorter summaries

A Journal article provides a lasting reference for a public update. Short social posts can introduce the observation and link back to the fuller explanation and its evidence.

Routine data refreshes need not produce new articles. Updates should follow meaningful changes and verified information rather than a requirement to announce something at every interval.

What deserves a closer report?

A repeated change in behaviour under comparable conditions can warrant a Mind-focused report. A resource stock declining alongside recorded uptake can warrant an ecological report. A sound event can warrant an acoustic observation. None should be renamed a learned skill, discovery or meaningful conversation without supporting evidence.

A report should identify the run, the relevant simulation interval, the scope and the baseline used for comparison. It should distinguish a current stock from a cumulative counter, and a population summary from one individual’s history. If there is only one observation, the article should describe a state rather than a trend.

The opening article documents the world at the start of the published run. Later Journal entries follow the changes observed from that point onward, including unexpected developments and questions the available measurements leave open.
